Pioneered by Scott Dixon, the first UK_National Championships will take place at Arena UK on Saturday 15th and Sunday 16th August 2020. Delighted by the reception received by all, from sponsors to exhibitors and judges, Scott has worked hard to get this showing extravaganza off the ground. Scott is usually seen aboard a horse and his successes both in the UK and worldwide are multi-garlanded and he has always wanted to give something back. Having ridden at the Australian Horse of the Year Show, Scott enjoyed their system of both qualifying and competing at their show (a qualifying points system and all placings in evening performances) and thought there was a gap in the market for a show of this nature here in the UK.
Deciding that 2020 was a good year to begin with an open show, Scott wanted to offer something for fellow riders to get their young horses out to this summer, rather than missing the whole season and the uptake has been phenomenal. The show this year will run with three rings on each day, with a maximum of ten entries per class, split into two halves for judging so that social distancing and government guidelines can be observed. Each section will have a championship, the winners of which will be invited to compete in ‘The Alford Family’ £500 Supreme. Horses will enter the ring for the supreme individually, performing a freestyle show to the judging panel, which will include a celebrity guest. The winner will receive the Rory Gilsenan Memorial Trophy, which will be presented in the ring for the first time by Rory’s wife and daughter. It promises to be a great weekend of competition and Showing World are delighted to be covering the first event.
